Introducing cPanel 66

We’re happy to announce the latest version of cPanel version 66 is now available on all our shared, semi dedicated and reseller hosting services.  As always each version of cPanel brings with it numerous fixes, performance improvements and features and this version is no different.

Improved SSL/TLS Status Page

cPanel 66 introduces an improved SSL/TLS status page which gives you complete control over our AutoSSL feature that we launched when we became an official Let’s Encrypt sponsor.  You can get to the SSL/TLS status page by searching for it under the security tab in cPanel:

Once reaching the SSL/TLS Status page you’ll now notice not only do you have the SSL/TLS status of all your certificates but you can now include and exclude the issuing of certificates for all your domains and subdomains.

Updated phpMyAdmin

phpMyAdmin in your cPanel has also been upgraded from 4.6 to the 4.7 release which contains numerous fixes and additional useful features.  You can read the entire phpMyAdmin changelog at the phpMyAdmin changelog page.

Improved Web Server Performance

While Litespeed is already the fastest performing web server this is always an opportunity to find even the slightest performance improvement.  As of cPanel 66 our systems will look for .htaccess files in less directories meaning a slight (not noticeable) performance gain for all our servers.

Features Not Available

If you’ve taken an opportunity to look at the cPanel release notes you’ll notice several features we don’t offer.  There are however reasons for this as we’ve already been offering superior versions of each of them, such as:

Application Manager

As of cPanel 66 the concept of an application manager has been introduced which brings the ability to run Ruby 2.4.  We however have been offering the ability to run multiple versions of Ruby as well as Python for over a month now.  We will of course keep an eye on the native cPanel implementation if it ever makes sense to offer over our own:

Wordpress Manager

cPanel has introduced the concept of the Wordpress manager however it only works with Wordpress installations installed by their own autoinstaller.  We however offer Softaculous which not only offers the ability to install Wordpress but over 430 other applications.  We’ve already expressed the lack of direction with this feature and the cPanel team had confirmed it’s on the roadmap for it to detect and support all Wordpress installations on an account.

Everything Else

There are numerous other features of course which may appeal more to our virtual private server customers utilizing cPanel/WHM.  Many of these same features also assist our team with providing the best possible experience on our servers.
